National Public Health Education Framework

Project Purpose: to develop a national competencies and skills framework for public health education
Main component: Core learning outcomes for MPH core (not curriculum)
Assumption: core learning outcomes should reflect public health practice and academic sectors
Learning outcomes
• developed on the basis of public health competencies and public health academic disciplines.
• refined and clarified with respect to the NPHP core functions of Public Health.
Educational framework describes, in the present context, the foundation components (learning outcomes) of MPH core and their assessment. Educational framework is distinguished from curriculum.

Project Process
1. Model for development of core learning outcomes
Core learning outcomes to be developed with respect to
• key public health disciplinary areas, and
• public health workforce competencies (representing the competencies required to undertake the public health enterprise)

• Review work undertaken internationally
• Review public health employer perspective

2. Identification of learning outcomes (draft)
Six disciplinary groups sub-contracted to write draft outcomes within discipline with reference to workforce competencies

Comments of draft report from sub-contractors and project steering committee

3. Refine core learning outcomes and relate them to functions of public health to ensure that the core component of public health academic programs will prepare students for engage in activity to support the core functions of public health
